The war in Ukraine has become a global theme from evening to morning last week. Many organizations and individuals have expressed support for our eastern neighbor, with the exception of sport. Over the weekend, our fortune-telling clubs also took a stand on the “Stop the War” banner. All except Slav and DAC.
Bratislava Slovan explained his actions immediately after the match. “We condemn any violence and loss of life and I would not like to develop this topic further. As a club, we are apolitical, but we believe in improving the overall situation, “said the spokesman of the Slovak football champion Tomáš Schügerl.
At the same time, he urged not to make it a bigger topic, “as a club we have always been active. When we talk about specific actions, I mention, for example, that we have provided a vaccination center, that is, I will say again, we condemn any violence. ”
Coach Vladimír Weiss Sr. was also very reticent, although he stated that he did not want to associate sports with politics. “I do not want to associate politics with football. These are certainly human tragedies that should not happen. I have lived in Russia, I know their mentality, but I would not like to develop this topic because I am not competent to do so. I condemn all violence, but I don’t think politics is a sport here today. ”
The club from Žitný ostrov did not release “its defense” until Monday, ie almost 2 days after the home match with Žilina (3: 1).
“Of course, we are all against war and all forms of violence, wherever they appear in the world and we are very sorry about what is happening in Ukraine. We are on the side of peace and solutions that do not destroy people and families, “ states the DAC in an opinion on its website.
“Before the weekend round matches, ÚLK sent a banner to each home club with the words ‘Stop the war’. The management of our club has decided that the photo shoot with the banner will be carried out by Žilina and the DAC independently, under their own direction, during the usual team photo shoot before the match.
Unfortunately, we did not manage it organizationally. As the visiting team with the banner, Žilina took the first picture and in the meantime our players were placed around the field, while the banner was not handed over to them in time, “ explains Dunajská Streda.
“Even our club does not sit with folded arms and helps as much as it can. At the moment, we are working to transport families with children from Kiev, to whom we will provide accommodation around Dunajská Streda and the opportunity to continue the training process in our MOL Academy, ” concluded DAC 1904.
