According to Ross Young, president of Display Supply Chain and specialist in the screen industry, the entire line of iPhone 15 would benefit from the disappearance of the notch, replaced by a double punch.
More than six months from the keynote, this is the question that torments the industry, observers and all Apple fans: will there still be a notch in the fall?
If we have a few snippets of information on the future iPhone 14 (the number – perhaps –, the possible change in size, the certain new chip, etc.), uncertainty remains as to the durability of the famous notch that has caused a lot of ink to flow and aroused many copies. Copied certainly, but never equaled in terms of security efficiency.
And that’s the whole question for Apple: should we give in and abandon it or try to rethink it?
The change is not yet now
The iPhone 13s have already slightly remodeled their notch, becoming slightly more compact without compromising on the TrueDepth camera and the facial recognition system. For 2022, the notch has long been rumored to disappear altogether, replaced by a pill-shaped punch or double punch, or even a pill with a punch to possibly house the flash.
But this change only seemed to affect the two future iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. However, according to display industry consultant and Display Supply Chain boss Ross Young, all models would benefit from the change…but in 2023.
On Twitter, the man is even rather categorical, explaining that “the double punch expected on the next iPhone Pro would be visible on all four models in 2023.” He even hopes that “the holes” will then be smaller. The ? The pill-shaped bubble should house the TrueDepth facial recognition system, but doesn’t appear to be a double punch. On the other hand, a rumor has also been circulating since September about two separate bubbles.

On the social network Weibo, another photo has surfaced to show a double punch accompanied by a bubble, but in a reverse direction. The message explains that BOE, screen manufacturer, would have received such a request for the iPhone 14. In its last videoJon Prosser also mentions it, pointing out a much larger size than expected.

It remains to be seen what will happen, but in any case, the notch available from the iPhone X seems to be living its last days.
