Thousands of people from Hamburg are also demonstrating in Hamburg against the Russian invasion

February 28, 2022 – Stefan Angele

Thousands of people took to the streets over the weekend for peace and an end to the fighting in Ukraine.
In Hamburg, demonstrators demonstrated in front of the Russian consulate general and in front of the Ukrainian representation. And several hundred people with posters and peace songs have also gathered in front of the town hall.

The North wears blue and yellow

With blue and yellow flags, buildings illuminated in blue and yellow, peace demonstrations, church services and vigils, Hamburg showed its solidarity with Ukraine, which had been invaded by Russia. Thousands of people called for demos End of hostilities: A vigil was held in front of the Russian consulate general, around 1,000 people gathered in front of the Ukrainian representation on Saturday (February 26), just as many were on the town hall square and on Sunday (February 27) more than 500 demonstrated again in front of the town hall. At a prayer for peace in the main church St. Petri with bishop Kirsten Fehrs and the catholic archbishop Stefan Hess also attended citizenship president Carola Veit and Mayor Peter Tschentscher.

First Ukraine refugees arrived in Hamburg

The number of war refugees who have meanwhile made it from the Ukraine to Hamburg is still manageable. By Sunday afternoon, 8 refugees had been admitted to the arrival center in Rahlstedt, said a spokesman for the interior authority.
It is known, however, that other Ukrainians have already found accommodation in Hamburg privately. According to Interior Senator Andy Grote, 2,000 to 3,000 people could currently be cared for in the existing accommodations.
