Paul Scholes delivers scathing verdict on Jadon Sancho and co.

At Manchester United, those responsible are still looking for an explanation for the sometimes frightening performances of the highly talented team. Meanwhile, a club legend believes club bosses are deluding themselves about the quality of the squad.

For Paul Scholes, who helped the Reds Devils to the reputation they still have today with numerous titles in the 1990s and 2000s, the demands on his former employer cannot be high enough. “Look, as a club I think it’s the biggest club in the world and they have to win trophies,” he told BT Sport.

The former offensive player sees the reason for Manchester’s fluctuating performance in the faulty transfer policy. “They spend a lot of money on players year after year – we sometimes think they’re the best players – but they didn’t bring anything.”

Paul Scholes: “We thought this year would be a little bit different”

At the beginning of the season, three top-class players were bought: Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo. The expectations around Old Trafford were correspondingly high. “We thought this year would be a little bit different,” admitted Scholes. But things turned out differently.

Man United will have to fight hard for fourth place in the Premier League due to their unnecessary point losses in order to be represented in the Champions League next year. In Scholes’ opinion, the runner-up should say goodbye in particular to his illusions regarding his younger and inexperienced generation.

“We have some really good young players, but those young players that everyone thinks are great players aren’t great players yet. They’re not great players until they win something.” With his criticism, however, Paul Scholes does not really hit the nail on the head.

The young players around Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have already won titles. While the latter lifted two trophies with Borussia Dortmund, Rashford even won four trophies with Manchester. The expert seemed to have forgotten that in his judgment.
