Kyiv remains the main target for the enemy, therefore shelling of the city continues, and sabotage groups are constantly sent into it, Zelensky noted.
The President of Ukraine called the shelling of houses in Kharkiv by Russian troops a war crime that should be punished. On Monday, February 28, he said in the Telegram channel.
He noted that eyewitness accounts, as well as video recordings made at that moment, indicate that this was not an accidental attack, but a targeted destruction of civilians.
“They knew where to shoot and there will definitely be an international tribunal for this crime, since this is a violation of all conventions. No one will forgive you for killing peaceful Ukrainians,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, the president called for “destroying evil,” including economically.
He noted that during the five days of the war, 56 missile strikes were inflicted on Ukraine, 113 cruise missiles were fired.
Zelensky stressed that Russia should be isolated and excluded from the UN Council. He also urged not to buy Russian goods.
Also, addressing the Ukrainians, the president noted that the authorities are aware of all the destruction and victims of the war.
“Eternal memory to those who died, and respect to those who defend our land,” the president said.
Speaking about the attack on Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Kyiv is the number one target for the enemy.
“They want to hack into our national statehood. That’s why the capital is constantly under threat. Only today three missile and bomb strikes have already been carried out. Under the guns of CHPP-6. They want to disable the power plant and leave the city without electricity. We did not let them break the defense of the capital “And they send saboteurs to us. Constantly. Hundreds. We neutralize them all, all of them,” the head of state said.
He also noted that on the initiative of the Russian side, the first round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia took place.
“These negotiations took place against the backdrop of bombardments and shelling of our territory, our cities. The synchronization of shelling with the negotiation process was visible. I believe that Russia is trying to put pressure in such a simple way. We do not accept such tactics. Fair negotiations can occur when one side does not hit the other side with rocket artillery at the very moment of negotiations,” the president said.
After the delegation returns to Kyiv, the country’s authorities intend to analyze what they heard and decide how to proceed to the second round of negotiations.
“Another thing that is very important to say. We have been waiting for this for 30 years. Today I signed an application for membership in the European Union. We won our right to be together with everyone in Europe in the struggle. The application has already been delivered to Brussels and officially registered. The time has come,” Zelensky added.
Recall that the presidents of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia called for an immediate grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate country.
