The world premiere will be broadcast live from the Spīķeri Concert Hall “Klasika” – the Latvian Radio Big Band (LRBB) performs the compositions of the Brazilian music legend Antônio Carlos Jobim, arranged by one of the world’s leading big band conductors – Swedish composer Mats Holmk.
In the program Big Band Bossa Nova includes compositions from Mata Holmqvist’s upcoming album A Tribute to Jobim, in which Bossova ‘s masterpieces permeated by Zhobim’ s sun and heat are arranged with the stylistic touch characteristic only of M. Holmqvist. The legendary will be heard in the intimate atmosphere of Spīķeri Concert Hall Desafinado, Carnival Morning, One Note Samba, Drinking water a read.
This is not the first collaboration with Matu Holmqvist for the Latvian Radio Big Band – in 2017, with the participation of trumpet player Randy Brecker and saxophonist Dick Outs, an album was recorded together Big Band Minimalism, in which Steve Reich and John Adams principles of musical minimalism meet the sound of modern jazz big band. Some excerpts from this collaboration will also be performed on the evening of February 28 in Spīķeri.
