Aline, whose eponymous character is embodied by the French actress Valérie Lemercier, tells the incredible destiny of a singer from Quebec who has become world famous. Inspired by the life of mega-star Celine Dion, this fiction release end of 2021 in Quebec traces Aline’s journey God, the youngest of a family of 14 children. Although Valérie Lemercier takes liberties to tell the story of Celine Dion through Aline Dieu, the director remains faithful to the dream lived by the Quebec star. TV sets, glittery heels, princess dresses, red carpets and vacations in the sun. A real fairy tale for our protagonist.
At 20, Aline discovers an engagement ring in the heart of an ice cream, allowing her to finally pursue her dream of marrying her Prince Charming despite criticism from the press and other tabloids. A royal wedding ensues for the artist and his producer, with a castle-like mansion as a new home, money and fame. In short, the fairyland.
They lived happily ever after, but did they have many children? Unfortunately, Aline has to face her torments as a mother in the making. The film exposes the couple’s fertility problems, obviously bringing to mind the ordeals experienced by Celine Dion and her late husband René.
Pregnancy tests and hormonal injections follow one another at the same pace as concert dates, then Aline loses her father. Valérie Lemercier’s acting is deep and touching. The lightwork subtly and powerfully exposes every success and challenge the character goes through.
Aline’s joy resurfaces when she learns that she is pregnant. The couple then becomes the parent of a little prince with long hair. Two other children will follow.
