Professional civil liability insurance: is it compulsory for a speech therapist?
Professional civil liability insurance is compulsory for regulated professions. The profession of speech therapist is therefore subject to the legal obligation to subscribe to a professional insurance or RC Pro speech therapistas for many medical professions (doctor, nurse, etc.).
If you practice your profession as a freelancer, you are required to take out professional liability insurance to protect your medical activity, but also your practice in the event of a claim.
For salaried speech therapists in the public service or the private sector, you are generally covered by your company’s insurance. The Rc Pro is therefore not compulsory. However, it is strongly recommended that you protect yourself in the event of a disagreement with your employer.
The RC Pro speech therapist aims to provide you with protection and guarantees before the civil, administrative and criminal courts. It intervenes in the event of professional misconduct, negligence, bodily injury or material damage.
In the event of a dispute, a patient or client may bring a claim against you and seek damages. If you have taken out professional liability insurance, this will cover the costs of compensation.
