Special carnival evening: carnival cinema in Spantekow

“Stories from our youth” should have been the motto of this carnival session for FKK Spantekow. Instead, there was now a movie night.

Special times require special measures and sometimes a particularly clever idea. And the carnivalists at FKK Spantekow certainly had that this year: the corona virus and all the measures that were still in force with it pulled the plug on a big carnival party early on, and in view of the war in Ukraine, carnival associations across the country are also warning of moderation.

Carnival without carnival – how does it work?

The people of Spantekow also want to take this into account, but they didn’t want to stay without carnival on Saturday. “Of course our thoughts are always on the terrible pictures from the Ukraine and we feel sorry for the local people,” explains club boss Dörte Müller. The war also occupies the minds in Spantekow.

“Giving people the opportunity to fall asleep with a nice thought in the evening in no way alleviates their dismay at the current political situation,” she says.

Looking back at almost 50 years of carnival

That’s why there was a very special film evening to see for a good three hours on Saturday in the community center. Dörte Müller herself initially spent countless hours in front of the screen to look for the best scenes from almost 50 years of carnival in Spantekow. It is thanks to the efforts of the Spantekow Film Club, above all Ferdinand Schlagner and Lothar Duchow, that the carnivalists can already fall back on video material from 1974.

What was recorded there is nothing less than a “cultural-historical value” and “true gold dust for Spantekow,” says the carnival boss. After all, what their predecessors did in the early years and afterwards to establish and keep the club was recorded.

Many tears flowed

Reminiscing a bit also fits the actual motto that the FKK wanted to set this year. “Stories from our youth” would have been the title of this session if it had gone normally. And everyone present in the hall really got to see them on Saturday evening. “There will be a lot of tears,” the club boss had predicted beforehand – and she was right.
