The IOC points out that such a decision has been taken with a heavy heart, facing a dilemma. Because while Russian and Belarusian athletes could continue to participate in sports events, the Ukrainians are denied it because of the war.
The IOC also maintains its recommendation not to allow the organization of any international sporting events in Russia and Belarus.
For violating the Olympic Truce and other violations of the Olympic Charter, the IOC has decided to revoke the Olympic Order from those close to the Russian government, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Deputy Chief of Staff Dmitry Kozak.
The IOC welcomes and appreciates the many calls for peace made by athletes, sports officials and members of the global Olympic community. The IOC admires and strongly supports the calls for peace by Russian athletes.
