The Dick Wolf series New York Special Unit, propels viewers into the American justice system. At the heart of The Big Apple, a special unit investigates sex crimes and supports victims. TF1 has been offering you the opportunity to follow the daily lives of these inspectors for 11 years now.
The Big Apple véreuse
“In the justice system, sex crimes are considered particularly monstrous. In New York, the detectives who investigate these crimes are members of an elite unit called the Special Victims Unit. Here are their stories.” It is with this hook that each episode of the series for 9 years now. And for 9 years, this sentence has immersed viewers in criminal stories morbid and poignant.
The team consists of 5 main members ( Elliot Stabler Olivia Benson , John Munch , Odafin Tutuola and their captain Don Cragen ), a psychiatrist ( Doctor George Huang ) and a prosecutor ( Casey Novak ). Together, they investigate crimes with sexual connotations while caring for the victims. After the unit’s investigation of Shell (Dan Florek), Casey (Diane Neal) takes the case in hand so that justice wins.
To work in such a service, you need to have a strong character. It is not our investigators who will tell you otherwise. Each, in their own way, have a good reason to be there. Whether it be Elliot (Christopher Meloni), father of four children or Olivia (Mariska Hargitay), the fruit of rape.
Spin off of the New York District series
New York Special Unit was created by the famous producer Dick Wolf. It finds its source in the series New York District which already combines investigations and judgments of all kinds.
Only here, it is a more particular unity (and which does not actually exist) that we see at work. Specialists in sex crimesthe investigators leave no chance to the culprits of these atrocious acts and intend to make them regret their gesture.
In one of the episodes, the story didn’t solve the case and fans never found out if the suspected man was guilty of raping one of his female students. However, they were called to voter to say whether they would have convicted him or not.
A series that rides the wave of success
The pilot of New York Special Unit has been broadcast since September 20, 1999 on the NBC and since September 17, 2000 on TF1 in France. The series is therefore 12 seasons, always with the two main actors, Christopher Meloni ( Elliot Stabler ) and Mariska Hargitay ( Olivia Benson ).
If the viewers seem won over by the special victim unit, so is the criticism. The series has won no less than 28 awards, including 3 Emmy Awards and 1 Golden Globe .
