Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Assistance from other countries for Ukraine began to arrive. The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense said in a tweet Sunday morning that military aid from the Baltic nation had arrived in Ukraine.
“Lithuania’s military aid shipment has reached Ukraine. Lithuania will continue to provide support to our friend Ukraine!” the tweet reads as reported by CNN International, Sunday (27/2/2022).
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters on Sunday that Australia would work with NATO members to supply weapons to Ukraine.
The move to step up support came after Prime Minister Scott said on Friday that Australia would provide “non-lethal” military equipment and medical supplies.
“We have already provided significant support in terms of non-lethal assistance (non-lethal aid). But I just spoke to the Secretary of Defense, and we will try to provide whatever support we can for lethal assistance (lethal aid) through our NATO partners, particularly the United States and Great Britain,” Morrison said.
Germany will send 1,000 anti-tank guns and 500 stinging missiles to Ukraine in a major policy change after rejecting Kyiv’s earlier call for defensive weapons.
The United States meanwhile allowed $350 million in new U.S. military aid to Ukraine, including “anti-armor and anti-aircraft systems, small arms and various caliber ammunition,” a Biden administration official said.
Earlier on Friday Poland had sent a convoy with ammunition to Ukraine, according to the country’s Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, making it the first publicly recognized delivery of military aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.
“We support Ukraine, and show solidarity against Russian aggression,” he said in a tweet.
British troops have also arrived in eastern Europe to reinforce NATO’s eastern front, according to a statement from the UK Ministry of Defense on Saturday.
