Within the history of Mexican cinema Figures always stand out who, due to their talent, charisma or sympathy, earned the appreciation of the public throughout their career, which gave them glory by putting them in gold letters over the years.
In this group of figures of both men and women, the impeccable figure, chivalrous, strong and charismatic of one of the most ironclad and talented gallants of the Mexican gold cinema, capable of playing a military man, a fierce Mexican charro, an indigenous or a city hunk.
The actor made a name for himself in the seventh art and dazzled with his deep gaze emanating from those emerald-colored eyes, unmistakable mustache, slicked-back hair, incomparable smile and a talent that left no doubt since his first appearance in the cinema in “Maria Elena“under the direction of its discoverer, Michael Zacharias, until the last film in which he played a Turkish secret agent in “The Return of 007” (From Russia with love) in 1963, acting together with another great monster, Sean Connery.
Of course we mean Pedro Gregorio Armendariz Hastingsrenowned actor in the Mexican and foreign film industry, who is widely valued and recognized by the Mexican public for his work and his deep charisma.
Pedro Armendarizis a true icon of Mexican cinema, he acted in successful and multi-award winning films alongside great actresses with whom he teamed up on screen, such as Dolores del Rio or María Félix, just to name a few.
His filmography includes more than 120 films, several of them shot in United States, France, Italy and the United Kingdomit was precisely here in England where he suffered more to be able to interpret his character, so much so that he had to be replaced in the final part of the filming by his double action.
his sad ending
The cause was an incurable disease, a cancer that attacked the hip region, Pedro suffered from very intense pain, due to the disease, which was reportedly the product of exposure to radiation while filming the movie “El conquistador”, directed by Howard Hughes.
In that film, Pedro, along with the entire cast and production team, moved to the UTAH region, very close to the site where the U.S. government United States had been testing atomic weapons, it is known that after participating in that filming of the 220 members who were there, 91 died of cancer.
Pedro got sick very young, 53 years old, his sadness and desperation was such that while in the Medical Center of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA)smuggled in a gun, and while his wife went out to look for food, he made an attempt on her life and shot himself in the head.
The pain of his loss went deep in his family and in my artistic medium, both for his widow, Carmen Bohr as for her children Pedro (RIP) and Carmen.
The remains of the actor were brought to Mexico and rest in the Pantheon Garden from Mexico City.
