Covid-19 in Hong Kong: the population must carry out three mandatory screening tests – LINFO.re

Hong Kong’s chief executive of the city, Carrie Lam, said: “Those who do not submit to the test will be held accountable.”

Screening tests imposed on 7.4 million residents

The city of Hong Kong is currently hit by a virulent epidemic wave with thousands of contaminations recorded every day. Faced with this alarming situation, the local authorities decided to impose three compulsory screening tests in March on the 7.4 million residents. Hong Kongers will also have to carry out rapid antigen tests at home.

During a press briefing, the leader of the city, Carrie Lam, also indicated that: “The rapidly worsening outbreak has far exceeded the government’s ability to Hong Kong to deal with it”. She then announced that: “The support of the central government is therefore essential to fight the virus”, reports Le Figaro.

Other restriction measures in Hong Kong

Other restrictive measures include the closure until the end of April of schools and many businesses (gyms, bars and beauty salons). Schools will be set up to serve as screening centers for coronavirus. Flights from nine countries, including Britain, the United States and France, will remain suspended.
