Who dumped hundreds, perhaps thousands of oranges in the Betuwe? The police are faced with that question after three ditches at Echteld, Zoelen and Beusichem were full of the citrus fruit this morning.
It was hobby photographer Diana van Dijk who first saw the oranges this morning. It’s often great to shoot in fog, she says. But in this case, she was still surprised by what she found.
“The oranges were in three places in the ditch. And I just heard that they are also in another place in the Betuwe,” she says at Broadcasting Gelderland† “And why? No idea.”
“I do know that a lot of waste is dumped in the countryside. Kitchens. Garden sheds. Refrigerators, You come across all kinds of things. I also see chickens or roosters walking around; people have previously purchased them as a hobby but don’t want them anymore and dump them them,” said Van Dijk. “But so many oranges? That’s a bit bizarre.”
