When Plzeň pod Vrbou went for its last championship title in the 2017/2018 season, the spring started disastrously. After the home fall with the last Jihlava in the spring premiere, a blanket lay on it, the luxury lead in Slavia began to thin. Line-up changes, team “dinners”, cabin meetings, nothing helped.

Performance remained virtually consistently poor, with only minimal glimpses of improvement. In the Doosan Arena, however, they still relied on the X-factor – the Willow phantom factor. However, over time, information began to leak from Victoria’s cabin that the coach was clueless. That he doesn’t know what to do with it.

I have a similar feeling now that the most successful Czech coach of the last ten years is sitting on Sparta’s bench. Apart from the derby, Slavia in the MOL Cup could not throw anything in the remaining four duels in the spring. The similarity with the spring groping with Pilsen four years ago is therefore offered.

However, Vrb’s share of guilt is different in both cases. It is lower in Letná. Reason? Pilsen had the best league autumn in its history, the competition was for a steamer, and the team stepped on it. It had a fixed axis, an experienced fighter in the staff. The current Sparta has none of this. On the other hand, the fact that he refused to strengthen the staff in the winter cannot be overlooked.

All in all, Vrba took over the team in an unhappy state a year ago, trying to start it in vain. But. Given that Sparta has been stepping on the spot in recent years, despite numerous changes on the bench and in the staff, it seems a bit like a mission impossible …
