The closure of the last full week of February 2022 has confirmed the rapid decline in the contagion curve, which began on Friday, January 28, the peak of this sixth wave, reaching a cumulative incidence of 14 days higher than the 4,300 cases. The week ends with 3,271 new infections, the best Friday since December 10, the date on which 2,700 covid-19 positives were reported. And the best number of cases since the 21st of that last month of 2021 when there were 2,567 in one day. The cases of this Friday -just when two years have passed since the official confirmation of the first Valencian case of coronavirus detected in a young man from Burriana who traveled to Milan-, represent a decrease of 28.31% week-on-week, since the previous February 18 , there were 4,563 infected.
As the days and weeks of this February have progressed, the downward evolution of this contagious wave has been confirmed due to the omicron variant. The full week of notifications ends with a total of 21,005 positivesWhat are they 38.44 percent less than the previous one when there were 34,123. The first week of the month (including the last day of January) registered more than 82,800 infected, already appreciating a large drop compared to the last week of January, the worst of the sixth wave with 160,879 cases. Then the second week of February came to confirm the dizzying decline as it recorded 55,970 cases.
It closes like this fourth consecutive week of decline in indicators of infections -the cumulative incidence at 14 days stood at 693 cases this Friday- and also of hospitalizations (251 fewer patients than last Friday, when there were 1,116 admitted). Care pressure continues to drop, because this Friday there are 865 covid patients in hospitals. This week has also been the one it has lowered the barrier of a thousand hospitalized with a decrease of 22.5 percent week-on-week. While in the intensive care units (ICU) there are already less than 100 patients, specifically, 96, which is 23 less than seven days ago.

The mortality curve continues to decline but at a slower rate, because death notifications continue to be high. Health added yesterday another 14 deaths by coronavirus, all of them corresponding to the last seven days except one, of a person who died in December. They are five women, between 66 and 87 years old, and nine men, between 44 and 91. The week closes with 77 deaths compared to 122 in the past and compared to 148 in the previous one, so there are three consecutive weeks with a drop in deaths. The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic amounts to 9,017.
According to the recorded data, at this time there are 35,329 active cases, which represents 2.71% of the total positives. A week ago there were more than 62,000 Valencian men and women who still had active disease. Regarding the number of discharges, Health gave 6,716. In this way, the number of people who have overcome the disease since the pandemic began in the Valencian Community is 1,257,331.
The best week so far this year too brings the Valencian Community closer to a low risk situation. Since last Friday, the territory has been at medium risk or alert 2, but the continued decline in healthcare pressure suggests that in the coming days it will go into alert 1, since in terms of the circulation of the virus, it is close to falling below the 500 cases of incidence, from which there is an extreme risk, while in hospital pressure and in the ICU, it is a few points away from falling in the percentages of bed occupancy that will confirm entry to another level. This Friday the percentage of beds occupied by covid patients was 5.69while that of the ICU stood at 10.33.
About three million Valencians with a third dose
More than 2.8 million Valencian men and women already have the booster dose, according to the latest ministerial report on the progress of vaccination, where it is confirmed that the Valencian Community is still ahead of the state average in all age groups, as well as in the additional punctures to those vaccinated with Janssen and Astrazeneca.
Regarding the coverage of the pediatric population, a total of 233,858 boys and girls aged 5 to 11 years have already received their first dose and 64,989 also the second, which means 66.4 percent with one dose and 18. 5 with the complete schedule, after the start of vaccination on Wednesday, December 15. The doctors, “fed up”
On the other hand, the union of doctors and public health professionals of the Valencian Community SIMAP, in a letter addressed to the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, emphasizes that doctors are “fed up with the continued disrespectof sensitivity and support after two years of pandemic”.
SIMAP thus refers to the accusation of “the doctors of stealing protection material” in the appeal presented by the Attorney General of the Generalitat to a sentence of a Social Court of Alicante that condemned the department to compensate the professionals for the lack of PPE in the first wave of the pandemic.
In this sense, the union, after recalling “all the efforts and sacrifices” they made when the pandemic broke out, points out that this justification “not only constitutes a grievance widespread suspicion of theft of medical supplies expressed in the text of the appeal, but rather it is an act of cruelty”.
“Using that argument shows the value we have for our health managers beyond words that are far from what the facts and actions reflect,” he criticized. Thus, they remember that in “those nightmarish times, with serious risk to our health and real suffering, we were forced to reuse the scarce material we had.”
