BSI Will Be A SOE, Ma’ruf Amin Says The Country Will Give Bilingual Shares

Jakarta

The government will inject capital into Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said the government would include state capital through series A Dwiwarna shares. In this way, BSI will become a complete BUMN.

BSI was originally a merger of three state-owned bank subsidiaries, namely BRI Syariah, BNI Syariah, and Bank Syariah Mandiri. Ma’ruf requested that the Dwiwarna share investment process be carried out in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations with supervision carried out by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).

“I ask that it be carried out carefully in accordance with existing regulations. What has been planned by the Ministry of SOEs can be executed properly, with supervision from BPKP,” said Ma’ruf in his statement, Friday (25/2/2022).

Furthermore, Ma’ruf also reminded that the effort to invest in state capital would not interfere with capital and harm the position of the Controlling Shareholder (PSP). BSIconsidering that these three PSP banks are public companies.

“From a business perspective, this option must benefit the company and bring benefits to the country and society,” said Ma’ruf.

Furthermore, he said that in order to grow BSI, direct state ownership was needed. That way the state is able to exercise special rights that can support the growth of BSI.

“The state will have special rights to approve amendments to the articles of association, appoint and pay attention to the Governing Council (Directors), and also monitor further developments,” said Ma’ruf.

SOE Minister Erick Thohir hastened the investment of bi-coloured shares in BSI. Check the next page.
