We will soon know the new face of the Max-Fourestier hospital in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine). The Reception and Hospital Care Center (Cash) has been engaged, since 2018, in a medical and architectural restructuring project. In the spring, an architect’s competition will be launched, to concretize the transformation of this building, built at the end of the 19th century.
At the origin of this project, the desire to bring together on the same site all the psychiatric beds in the north of Hauts-de-Seine. Until now, patients from Nanterre and Courbevoie were taken care of at Cash. But those from other municipalities (Asnières, Clichy, Gennevilliers, Bois-Colombes, La Garenne-Colombes and Villeneuve-la-Garenne) were hospitalized in Moisselles, in Val-d’Oise, in the public health establishment (EPS) Roger-Prevot.
197 psychiatric beds in a single building
“This situation is detrimental for patients, who are forced to be cared for miles from home,” explains Luce Legendre, director of Cash and EPS. In 2018, the two establishments signed an agreement with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Ile-de-France to record their gathering in one place. They also establish a common medical project for the north of Hauts-de-Seine, where psychiatry occupies an important place.
At the heart of this project, the desire to improve patient care, as close as possible to their homes. “We want to increase the care of outpatients, to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations,” continues Luce Legendre. By combining EPS and Cash, the number of psychiatric beds in the north of the department will decrease (from 240 to 197), but outpatient care will improve.
The project provides for more caregivers and local structures. In Gennevilliers, the therapeutic reception center for adolescents will thus be rehabilitated with more caregivers and better reception conditions.
A total investment of 150 million euros
“Thanks to additional funding granted by the ARS, we have also been able to increase our mobile psychiatry team for the elderly. We have recruited a nurse and a psychiatrist, ”explains the director of Cash. 72 such initiatives are planned under the new joint medical project.
The architectural transformation of the Nanterre hospital will accompany this new healthcare offer. A new mental health center will be built within the premises of Cash, financed by the EPS Roger Prévot. The project of 67 million euros will be supported by the State to the tune of 25.5 million euros within the framework of the Ségur de la santé.
The Nanterre Cash will take charge of the rehabilitation of the rest of the hospital, including the construction of a building for outpatient consultations. An investment of 81 million euros, partially financed by the future sale of part of the land to Nanterre Partagée (Icade, Crédit Agricole Immobilier and Novaxia consortium), which provides for the construction of 260 housing units. Work should begin in 2024 and be completed in early 2027.
