Many Belgian companies are already feeling the impact of the war in Ukraine: “Our personnel are in an air raid shelter or are on the run”

“A lot of people are still working,” says Vancraen. “That’s very admirable in these circumstances. We told them not to work, but first and foremost make sure they and their families are safe. We want to help them first.”

The company’s customers will not notice much of this. “Materialise has offices worldwide. We have similar teams in Malaysia and Colombia. They are now taking over a large part of the work. That way we can guarantee continuity to our customers.”

Materialize had prepared for difficulties. “Some of our employees had already fled to Poland, where we also have a department or to a back office in western Ukraine where we expect fewer problems, but what is happening now surpasses everything. It is even worse than the worst case scenario.”
