Despite invasion, Russia is allowed to participate in Song Contest: “Non-political event”

Despite the invasion of Ukraine, Russia may participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year, the organizing European Radio Union has announced.

According to the organizers, the song contest is a “non-political cultural event”. The EBU is “currently planning” to receive submissions from both Russia and Ukraine, but it also says it will continue to “monitor the situation closely”.

Ukrainian public broadcaster UA-PBC had called on Thursday to ban Russia from the Eurovision Song Contest.
