Talks about Russia, Ukraine, to NATO more and more crowded after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Donbas, eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Moscow separatists.
After netizens mentioned NATO on Twitter, now netizens are uploading memes that insinuate NATO and a number of other countries that have not helped Ukraine face Russia.
A number of netizens on social media Twitter said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or Atlantic Alliance (NATO), the United Nations (UN), and a number of other countries should help Ukraine against Russia. The reason is, the war strength of the two countries has a significant difference.
Some netizens made satire, including the @Ashish_tiwari7 account which in its meme compares the UN in school books and the UN in the real world.
Then another innuendo came from the @ExFunnyGuy0 account saying “America and NATO are fooling Ukraine but Russia not,” while attaching a meme image of Ukraine asking for air support.
Also, another tease came from @Himxnshu07 who mentioned the US and NATO had betrayed Ukraine.
Furthermore, @S_U_Dikko provided a satire through a meme containing an image of the popular Tom & Jerry cartoon.
“This explains the Russia-Ukraine tensions caused by NATO“he said in the tease.
Meanwhile, the @Iam_ShivaniS account in the meme he uploaded seemed to explain how NATO behaves in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“This is how NATO is dealing with the current #Ukraine Crisis. US & European countries have pushed Ukraine into big trouble,” he said.
Ukraine and Russia are not listed as members of NATO. Previously, NATO countries (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania had voiced imposing Article 4 of NATO regarding Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Article 4 of NATO reads, “The parties shall consult together whenever, in the opinion of either party, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of either party is threatened.”
According to the NATO website, consultations under Article 4 could lead to collective action among the 30 member states.
