Crans-Montana – In Crans-Montana, Switzerland, the decisive phase of the women’s downhill World Cup will begin next weekend. If a race in the discipline is held on Saturday and Sunday (February 26 and 27, 2022), 18 athletes still have a mathematical chance of winning the small crystal globe. After the highlight of the season in the form of the Winter Games, another gripping highlight is on the horizon with the downhill double in Crans-Montana.
Today, Thursday, the speed ladies were able to take a look at the “Mont Lachaux” slope for the first time during the first downhill training session. The Confederate did magic Joana Hählen set a clear best time in the snow with a time of 1:32.36 minutes. The experienced Norwegian Ragnhild Mowinckel lost six and a half tenths in second place; Laura Gauche (+0.80) from France was third.

The Azure Representative Francesca Marsaglia (+0.89) swung away in fourth and referred Nadine Fest (+0.92) from Austria in fifth place. Best US Lady Jacqueline Wiles (+1.15); she classified sixth. Elena Curtoni (+1.31) from Italy had to settle for seventh place, while Christine Scheyer lined up as the second best ÖSV athlete. The top ten of the first test run were from the Canadian Marie-Michéle Gagnon (9th; +1.42) and the Tyrolean Christina Ager (10th; +1.42) rounded down.
Her teammates lined up behind Ager Sabrina Maier (+1.67) and Stephanie Venier (+1.70) in eleventh and twelveth place. Mirjam Puchner (+1.79), she is also on the road for Team Austria, ended up in 16th place. She finished ahead of the azure athlete Sofia Goggia (+1.82) and the Olympic fourth Kira Weidle (+1.89), who drove with the handbrake on and found themselves in 17th and 18th place.
Ariane Radler (+1.96) and Ramona Siebenhofer (+2.18) from Austria finished in positions 19 and 22; they took the landlady on the slopes in the canton of Valais Jasmina Suter (20th; +1.99) and Priska Nufer (21st; +2.07) in the tongs. Many top names such as Lara Gut-Behrami and Corinne Suter from the Swiss Ski Team or the Delago-sisters Nicol and Nadia drove very carefully and used the first post-Olympic training sessions to inspect the route. There is no other way to explain their big gap of two and a half seconds or more to Hählen.
