Jakarta –
The Democrat Party strongly criticized the discourse extension of the presidency breathed by the two general chairmen of the parties supporting the government. Democrats accused the extension of the term of office was the will of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“For the Democratic Party, we already know that this is what Pak Jokowi wants, not what political parties want,” said Chairman of the Democratic Bappilu Andi Arief to reporters, Thursday (24/2/2022).
Andi Arief emphasized that the administration of government should not be carried out lightly. He said that the regulations that had been set by the state could not be changed recklessly.
“This is a matter of state and government administration and regulations, not playing games. This is not a company or a gang whose regulations can be changed recklessly,” said Andi Arief.
“Rules do not only belong to political parties, but all components of the nation. There are non-party and non-state components that must also be considered,” he added.
Democrats, said Andi Arief, asked Jokowi to explain about the extension of this presidential term. Democrats asked Jokowi to explain clearly to the public.
“The Democratic Party asks Pak Jokowi to explain in full what he means to extend this power, what does it mean to change the rules. Please explain clearly to the public,” he said.
“The Democratic Party is asking for and waiting for that explanation. It’s not an explanation from the chairmen of the coalition parties,” he added.
Andi Arief stressed that the Democrats rejected the proposed extension of the presidential term. He called the Democrats a party that has common sense.
“The attitude of the Democrats has been clear so far: they have rejected the extension. Democrats have a common sense attitude about democracy, even being a pioneer of democracy during Pak SBY’s leadership,” he said.
In addition, the Democrats asked President Jokowi to stop his ambition to extend his term in office. The party bearing the symbol of the Mercy logo, said Andi Arief, reminded Jokowi not to cross the existing boundaries.
“Mr Jokowi should refuse and stop this extension ambition. Don’t underestimate the power outside the coalition. Pak Jokowi don’t cross the line,” he concluded.
