PHOTO: Guests arrive at the opening of the “Big Kristaps” film program

At 7 pm, in the Small Hall of “Splendid Palace”, a documentary film “Gorbachev’s Paradise” co-produced by Latvia and the Czech Republic, directed by Vitalijs Manskis, was shown. The film “Kristaps the Great” was nominated in five categories.

Two films will premiere on Friday, February 25th. At 6 pm, Ivars Zviedra’s documentary film “On the unseen, Brasa!” The comedy “Revolution” by Mārčs Lācis will premiere at the screening at 8 p.m.

In the small hall at 5 pm, the film “Wild East. Where will the road lead”, which is nominated for six “Great Kristaps” awards, will be screened at 7.30 pm – Behind the scenes of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA2) and nominated for the award in two categories.

On Saturday, February 26, at 1.30 pm, Marta Elīna Martinson’s debut film “Tizlenes”, which has been nominated for “Big Kristaps” in ten categories, will be shown, and an animation screening with six short films will start at 2 pm. The Latvian premieres of the out-of-competition film “Dusmukule” and “Big Kristaps” nominees “Diendusa” and “Chuchchi Chuchi”, which was also included in the program of the Berlin Film Festival. The animated film screening also includes the films “Truba”, “Comeback” and “Guard of Honor” nominated for “Kristaps the Great”.

At 15.30, Laila Pakalniņa’s film “In the Mirror”, which has received ten nominations for “The Great Kristaps”, will be shown in the Small Hall, while at 4 pm, the documentary “Delle” about the artist Biruta Delli will be shown in the Large Hall. The film “Kristaps the Great” was nominated in three categories.

Alessandro Rosellini’s documentary-family portrait “I was born Rosellini” will be shown at 5.30 pm, and a screening of the film “Bedre” will take place at 7.30 pm. The student and short film program will be shown in two screenings – 18 and 20 – and will feature eight films. The first part includes the films “Flute” and the student competition films “Professor and Gena”, “Bezfilma” and “Mia”. The second part will feature “Trace Me,” “The Book of High Wisdom from the World and Nature, Part 1,” “The Millionaires of Priekuli,” and “The Thunderstorm.”

An exhibition dedicated to the costume designer Ieva Kundziņš will also be on display at the Splendid Palace cinema. She will be presented with “Kristaps the Great” for her lifetime contribution this year.
