Wali Kota Kiev, UkraineVitaly Klitschko announces implementation curfew in the Ukrainian capital Thursday (24/2) as the country struggles to repel the Russian invasion.
The former world heavyweight boxing champion said the curfew would run from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. As a result of the curfew, all public transportation will come to a complete stop.
However, metro stations will remain open around the clock as a shelter for citizens from bomb attacks sent by Russian troops.
Residents of the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, flocked to seek refuge, shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an order for military operations in the Donbas region, located in eastern Ukraine, Thursday (24/2) morning at around 06.00 local time.
Residents of Kiev with suitcases set off and filled the subway stations. Other residents filled buses to leave the city, long lines of cars also seemed to be snaking trying to find a way to get away from the capital.
“While we heard the air raid sirens, you can imagine how panicked the people of this city were who were shaken from their beds by the thunderous explosions that were happening all around us,” Kiev resident Matthew Chance told CNNThursday (24/2).
