Metropolis Berlin

This concert describes Berlin during the golden age of the “roaring twenties” as a time of change with songs by Mischa Spoliansky, Friedrich Hollaender, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Louis Prima and many more. It is that wild era in which creativity, art, music and culture reach a climax. The time of Brecht and Weill’s The Threepenny Opera, Friz Lang’s silent film “Metropolis”, the discovery of Marlene Dietrich, who plays “Pretty Lola” in Joseph von Sternberg’s world hit “The Blue Angel”. It is also the era of the Comedian Harmonists, Josephine Baker and her Charleston music, the Andrew Sisters and American swing and jazz that are transforming Berlin and other major German cities. Haan combines all these genres and revives this exciting epoch by taking the listener on an enchantingly entertaining musical journey through music history. A high-speed show that won’t keep the audience seated, but in which you’ll want to swing and sing along!

Arranged for a 12 and an 18 piece big band.

Between fire & ice

A time of change. A time of challenge. A time of experiments. A time when traditions are overthrown. The First World War is lost, the Kaiser in exile. And Germany experiments with a new government: the Weimar Republic is born and with it a nation longing for freedom. The Golden Age is celebrated, the dance on the volcano between the two world wars. It was the time of creativity, art, music, culture, women’s movement and gay liberation. The dynamic thoroughbred entertainer Adrienne Haan revives this exciting era. Adrienne weaves the threads between feminist struggle and female glamor and takes the viewer on an exciting journey through history. In contrast to “Voluptuous Weimar”, this concert contains only German chansons from the time of the Weimar Republic.

This program is offered for symphony orchestra and with piano accompaniment. Score and sheet music are available for all of the above accompaniments.

Adrienne Haan sings Kurt Weill

In this soirée, the focus is on the history of Kurt Weill’s work. Starting in Berlin in the 1920s and his famous songs from the Weimar period, through his years in exile in France with lesser-known but wonderful chansons, to his successes in the 1940s in the USA. Haan presents this evening as a musical journey in which she performs his works in their original length and in their original language. Rearranged, of course, to do justice to her expressive voice and stage presence.

Sheet music is available for a trio (piano, bass/tuba, drums) or for a 6-piece ensemble: piano, bass/tuba, drums, clarinet/alto sax, violin and guitar/banjo.

Tehorah

Tehorah, which means “pure” in Hebrew, is a heartbreaking, uplifting, musical-poetic portrait of love, hope and forgiveness. The soirée contains German, Yiddish and Hebrew songs that were composed and written exclusively by Jewish composers and poets. Premiered in New York’s famous Carnegie Hall, this soirée sets a sign of hope for peace between peoples.

Score and sheet music are available for piano, piano and string quartet, piano and string quintet, piano and string orchestra or for a large symphony orchestra.

Rock le Cabaret!

Rock Le Cabaret! is a modern rock opera that includes French chansons by Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour and Kurt Weill and is presented in a modern rock and pop scenario, accompanied by a 5-piece rock band. Summarized with monologues and anecdotes who wrote history, Adrienne Haan combines these wittily and lively with her own, which make for an interesting, entertaining, varied and modern pastime. For the first time a chanteuse succeeds in building a bridge between classical French chanson and modern rock music. Jacques Brel meets Metallica. Edith Piaf on Van Halen. Charles Aznavour on the Bee Gees and Kurt Weill on Lloyd Webber. This show is definitely family fun and cabaret for the new generation.

Sheet music is available for a 5 piece rock band – piano, bass, drums, electric guitar and tenor saxophone.

Margo & Juliette – A dance on the volcano in Weimar Berlin

Margo & Juliette is a story about the women of the 1920s and early 30s and is set in Berlin. It is about their failures and successes, about life between feminist struggle and female glamour, sexual freedom and the longing for acceptance. This show is a dance on the volcano between the two world wars.

Featuring cabaret songs from Weimar Berlin, this soirée noir is set in the historical context of 1920s cabaret and tells the story of women fighting for freedom before Nazism closed the curtain on the Golden Age forever in 1933.
