The Antioquia medical union represented in Asmedas spoke this Wednesday afternoon about the lifting of the use of face masks in Medellín and other municipalities of Antioquia, where the vaccination plan has exceeded 70%, as authorized by the National Government in hours noon.
Through his spokesman, doctor Jorge Iván Posada Vélez, Asmedas hinted that this is not the time to lower our guard or put aside the mask, since the complete vaccination schedule must also include the booster dose, especially for some population groups. .
The Medical Association stated that “a complete vaccination schedule must include the booster dose”, especially for older people, with comorbidities or with debilitating diseases, among others. For this reason, he believed that a complete vaccination schedule should be considered when at least three doses are obtained.
Likewise, he stressed that it is necessary to make a precision regarding the fact that the Ministry of Health continues to consider that the use of the face mask should be mandatory in closed spaces and in places with crowds, for which he recommended that the entire population in general, continue with the use of the mask, especially when interacting with other people, even in open spaces.
“It is important that we continue with this culture of prevention that we have been working on in the last two years,” he warned.
He also recalled that the pandemic has not been overcome, “we are just going through a fourth peak, fortunately with very encouraging indicators” and with a persistent decline in the numbers of new infections and a sustained decrease in the number of patients who have died in the last three weeks.
After the authorization of the National Government to lift the mandatory use of the mouth and nasal protector, both in Medellín and in Envigado and Rionegro, the recommendation was accepted almost instantly.
In Antioquia, the Government recalled that a total of 38 localities in six subregions can decree the suspension of the mandatory use of the mask in open spaces.
Finally, the doctors invited citizens to continue with self-care measures, since the pandemic has not yet been overcome and that -they consider- it is possible that with the passing of the months new variants will emerge and the occurrence will occur. of a fifth peak.
