What are the similarities between comets and planets and their differences?

What comets and planets have in common is that they are both objects outer space. Apart from that, there are also similarities and differences between the two.

You may no longer be a stranger to celestial objects comets and planets. In outer space itself there are many types of them.

Like planets. In solar system we already have so many planets. Not to mention in other galaxies orbiting each other’s big stars.

This is the Similarity of Comets and Planets

There are still many things in outer space that are still a mystery. However, there are still some things that people are very familiar with.

Planets are a common thing that many people talk about. What about comets?

Many people still confuse comets with meteor. In fact, comets are celestial bodies formed from the remains of the formation of the universe billions of years ago.

Comets have another name as tailed stars. He is often seen approaching Earth but in a very long period of time.

Similarities of the Two

The similarities between comets and planets are two celestial bodies that are often the object of research. Both have their own composition and uniqueness.

Planets are celestial bodies that do not emit their own heat or light. Planets are constantly moving around the sun or their parent star.

A comet is a celestial body that glows like a star. The center of the comet is very bright and has a long tail resembling a mist. The similarity between the two is that they revolve around the sun and reflect sunlight.

Both are also members of the solar system in which Earth is located. This makes the presence of planets and comets detectable through tools such as telescopes.

That way, astronomers can examine both of them better so that they get convincing data. What comets and other planets have in common is that they both have a nucleus.

Difference Between Comet and Planet

Even though they have some similarities, they are also different. All celestial bodies have their own character.

For example, both do rotate about the sun. However, in moving around the sun, of course these two celestial bodies have different paths.

The comet in this case has a more elliptical orbital path. As a result, the orbital time is much longer than that of the planets.

In terms of shape, the two are very different. Comets have a shape that tends to be oval and long.

Most comets contain water and rock. It was even covered in white dust that made it look like it had a tail.

The planets, on the other hand, are shorter and elliptical. Instead of water, the planet’s core is made up of rock and gas. For example, the core of the Earth is covered by a blanket of solid rock.

That proves that even though comets and planets have a core in common. Both are still composed of different elements as their trademark.

In addition, the size of the planet is also much larger. This means that comets may only be half or even a quarter the size of a normal planet.

The planet also doesn’t have the white, smoky fibers that look like tails. Even so, the planet still has a protective layer in the form of an atmosphere. The atmosphere content of each planet is also of course different.

The final and most striking difference is its durability. Planets will not be easily destroyed because of their larger size and the large number of constituent substances in the planet. The planet’s orbital path also tends to be stable.

This is in stark contrast to comets that are prone to shattering like other space rocks. When orbiting the sun, comets often get too close to the star.

As a result, the comet will burn and be destroyed. When disintegrated they would just be meaningless dust in outer space.

The Number in the Universe

In addition to the equations, you also need to know the number of comets and planets. To date, the number of comets that have been identified in the solar system is 3,743. There are only eight planets in our solar system.

However, there are many exoplanets outside the galaxy and even those that have not been detected because of their distances beyond the reach of human technology.

There are some similarities between comets and planets and their differences for you to understand. Although with many similarities, both still have different characteristics. (R10 / HR-Online / Editor-Ndu)
