Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia is said to have finally attacked Ukraine in full. The United States said the “finishing touches” were being made by President Vladimir Putin’s country to deploy troops for a “full invasion”.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antony Blinken, Wednesday (23/2/2022) evening local time as reported CNN International. US, he said speaking in an interview with ABC Newshad “seen Russia’s presence inside Ukraine”.
“Everything we have seen over the last 24 to 48 hours has Russia put the finishing touches to deploying its troops throughout Ukraine,” he said.
“Borders, to the north, to the east, to the south, ready for a full invasion.”
He also warned of the long-term costs if Russia invaded Ukraine. He said the sanctions would be more severe.
“There will be a very swift and severe response. This is the price that Vladimir Putin and Russia will pay for a very long time,” he explained.
Previously, Ukraine imposed a national emergency status, Wednesday (23/2/2022) evening local time. This was issued by parliament in response to the threat of a Russian invasion, which the West said had already begun.
Ukraine itself yesterday issued a warning to citizens to immediately leave Russia. Meanwhile Moscow evacuated its embassy in Kyiv.
Status will be valid from Thursday to 30 days. This situation applies to all regions of Ukraine except for two Russian-backed separatist regions, Donetsk Lugansk in eastern Ukraine.
The capital city of Kyiv has also announced the same status. Checkpoints will be on standby at the main entrances to the capital and there will be special controls at railway stations and airports.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict involving the US and NATO has escalated after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Monday. Not only recognizing the two regions that wanted to secede from Ukraine as states, he also ordered the Russian armed forces to enter these areas.
Russia denies it will attack. The country said it sent troops in return for the two regions to “maintain the peace”.
