The Portuguese Renato Paiva will not be the coach of the Santos. The trend is for him to continue at Independiente Del Valle (EQU). Peixe did not accept the coach’s conditions to close the contract.
Paiva accepted to be interviewed by Peixe and was convinced to work in Brazil in the virtual meeting, but he made some demands in the last few hours and the negotiation cooled down. The conditions went beyond the financial aspect.
The selection process with Renato Paiva and other candidates at Independiente Del Valle lasted two months. The 51-year-old Portuguese accepted to leave Benfica after 14 years in the youth categories: 11 seasons in the under-17, two in the under-20 and one in the B team. Since January 2021 in Ecuador, he has not been convinced to leave for the Saints now.
Without Renato Paiva, Santos still has the Argentine Fabián Bustos, from Barcelona de Guayaquil, as an option. Peixe does not rule out seeking alternatives in the market. The Portuguese Ricardo Soares, from Gil Vicente, was also interviewed.
Without a coach since the departure of Fabio Carille last Friday, Santos will face Salgueiro today (23), at 7 pm, at Estádio Cornélio de Barros, under the command of assistant Marcelo Fernandes. The single match is valid for the first phase of the Copa do Brasil. The Fish has the advantage of the draw.
