When presenter Jurre Geluk asks Jaël what is bothering her, she lists a whole list. †My mind is blown!Jurre responds to this. What the 22-year-old woman suffers from every day is that her joints are dislocated. “The first one always hurts a lot, but the times after that it is not too bad.”
Jael wears braces around her knees and neck to keep the joints in place. She also has special shoes and rings on her fingers to make sure they don’t slip. Plus, she can’t stand for too long either. “Then my dysautonomia comes up. That increases the chance of fainting in me.”

Also, Jael’s stomach is not functioning properly. “So I eat through a tube in my stomach. That’s how I get my nutrients,” she says. This means that she can no longer drink and eat by herself. “And it doesn’t look like that will happen for the time being.”
Jaël eats very small amounts, to stimulate her stomach and to get used to the taste. “Sometimes I drink cappuccino, or eat ice cream in the morning.” All in all, Jael only eats 250 calories a day.
–
Surprisingly, cooking is Jael’s biggest hobby. “Sometimes it’s weird, because I can’t always taste what I’m making. Then I either have to do it by feel or there has to be someone who can taste it.”
Although there is a lot going on with Jael, it is not immediately apparent to her. This leads to her feeling misunderstood. Some even call her ‘a nerd’. “That’s how I felt in the beginning, because people say I always have something. And then I stopped saying it.”
