Winter storm with damaging snowfall threatens eastern US

A winter storm that meteorologists have dubbed “Oaklee” is moving toward the eastern United States on Tuesday, with snowfall from the Midwest and toward New England, while hail and strong winds are expected further south.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of flooding in areas of the Mississippi River Valley and said a second significant winter storm will move from the southern Plains into the Ohio River Valley tomorrow.

Airlines in the US today have canceled at least 1,619 flights and reported delays to 3,371 flights. The airports with the highest number of delays and cancellations were Charlotte, North Carolina, and O’Hare, Chicago, Illinois.

“Oaklee” follows the track of the storm “Nancy”, which today affects the northern region of the country, and will conclude its frigid route to the northeast during the weekend unloading snow and ice in New England.

Likewise, “Oaklee” will leave its trail farther west today with snow in the mountains of California and the southern and central areas of the Rocky Mountains.

Forecasters are also predicting possible snowfall in parts of Nevada, northern Arizona, Utah and the Colorado mountains.
