Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already reportedly called on the West to give “clear support” to Ukraine on Tuesday after Russia recognized the so-called “People’s Republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk (DTR and LTR) on Monday and decided to officially bring troops into the territories.
In his address to several world leaders, Zelensky said Ukraine was “not afraid of anything or anyone”.
He called the actions of the Kremlin a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and said that all responsibility for the consequences of these decisions lay with Russia.
Zelensky also said that Ukraine is initiating an extraordinary summit of the “Normandy Quartet” – Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany – after the said Russian decisions.
The President of Ukraine expressed the view that the recognition of the “independence” of the DTR and LTR could mean Russia’s unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements and the disregard of the decisions of the “Normandy Quartet”.
He noted that he expected “clear and effective steps of support” from Ukraine’s Western partners.
