War Erupts? Putin Officially Sends Troops to Ukraine

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The threat of war still looms over Europe. This comes from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which involves the United States (US), Europe, and NATO.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is said to have signed a decree Monday (21/2/2022). Not only recognizing the two regions that wanted to secede from Ukraine as states, he also ordered the Russian armed forces to enter these areas.

Quoted from CNN International, he mobilized troops under the pretext of a “peacekeeping function”. The two regions that he claims to be independent are in Eastern Ukraine, namely the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), which Russia has long supported.

This is known from a senior United States official on intelligence information. Russian troops are believed to be moving into the Donbas, one of the conflict zones seeking secession, by Tuesday at the latest.

The US also said the preparations for military operations had also been carried out by Russia. Including loading amphibious ships and air units, although the details were not explained.

Earlier, Monday morning local time, Putin was known to have delivered a fiery speech while recognizing the independence of the two volatile regions of Eastern Ukraine. Although previously the West had threatened massive sanctions.

“I believe it is necessary to take a long -delayed decision, to immediately recognize the independence and sovereignty of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic,” he was quoted as saying by AFP, citing reciprocal assistance to rebel leaders.

The European Union (EU) reacted to Putin’s actions. Even Putin’s actions were called a violation of international law, the integrity of Ukraine, and the Minsk ceasefire agreement.

Earlier, Estonia’s Foreign Intelligence Service said Russia was likely to launch a limited military strike. The attack would include the bombardment of missile weapons and the occupation of “main ground” in Ukraine.

“Right now, our assessment is that they will avoid cities with large populations, as it takes a lot of troops to control those areas,” said Mikk Marran, director general of Estonia’s foreign intelligence service. Reuters last week.

The possibility, he said at the time, was that Russia would intensify fighting in the region that was seeking to secede from Ukraine and was supported by Moscow.

“Such escalation is very possible. And in this way, Russia is likely to get a reasonable denial and avoid sanctions,” said Marran again.

“If Russia is successful in Ukraine, it will push it to increase pressure in the Baltics in the years to come. The threat of war has become a key policy tool for Putin.”

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is believed by some observers to trigger World War 3 (World War 3). quote, 19fortyfive, Dr. Robert Farley, lecturer in security studies and diplomacy at The Patterson School in the US, explains this.
