While Colossus’ mutation gives him outsized strength and virtually bulletproof protection, it didn’t stop him from being violently murdered by Captain America. The mutant is sent by Tony Stark to find Steve Rogers. But his encounter with the super soldier proved deadly. Focus on a one-sided confrontation.
Colossus vs Captain America
To my right is Colossus. Created in 1975 by Len Wein and Dave Cockrumthis character is a powerful mutant member of the X-Men. Colossus has appeared in movies five timesfirst in the guise of Daniel Cudmore in X-Men 2, X-Men: The Final Showdown and in X-Men : Days of Future Pastthen in the two films Deadpool under the guise of Andre Tricoteux. Colossus possesses inordinate physical strength, and is covered in nearly indestructible metal. He remains one of the straightest and kindest mutants in the Marvel Universe.
To my left is the famous Steve Rogers. Created in 1941 by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Captain America has quickly become one of the most famous characters in the entire Marvel Universe. Embodied in the cinema by Matt Salinger, then especially by Chris Evans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Steve Rogers is a super soldier with incredible strength. And when these two characters meet, it makes sparks.
The death of Colossus
In history Avengers : Halloween Special by Jen and Sylvia Soska, Tony Stark hires Deadpool and Colossus to retrieve Captain America’s body, then still frozen. But when the three heroes arrive in the frozen tundra, they discover that Captain America is already awake. The trio then embarked on an extremely difficult mission: capture this version of the super soldier, much more violent than the one we know.
Colossus is the first to approach Captain America. The latter, suspicious and in total incomprehension, threw his shield at the mutant. This one lodged right in his skull, thus fracturing the metal covering the mutant. The vibranium shield was thrown with such force, it pierced Colossus’ organic metal and killed him instantly. This ultimately proves Colossus’ recurring weaknesses. Its metal is ultimately not strong enough to resist vibranium or adamantium. And his strength remains much lower than other brutes in the Marvel universe like The Scourge, The Thing or of course the Hulk.
As for this murder, it is explained by the nature of Steve Rogers in this comics. Captain America is indeed possessed by an alien creature, which pushes him to do evil and to use extreme violence. But this story nevertheless shows Captain America’s superiority over Colossus. And the weakness of the latter in the Marvel universe…
