The organizations denounced that despite the fact that two years have passed since the pandemic and increasingly contagious variants continue to be developed, in addition to the fact that the Mexican government applies booster doses to adults, It is not yet planned to purchase vaccines for the population between 5 and 14 years of age“nor are they included in the national vaccination strategy.”
This, despite having a policy of returning to face-to-face classes, in which, they specified, the Government “does not consider all the necessary provisions to safeguard the health of children and adolescents”, for which many families have chosen not to send their children to school.

They assured that the possible development of persistent or long Covid-19 has been ignored and a message of false security is communicated that exposes minors “to an even greater risk of contagion.”
They recalled that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the United States regulatory bodies (FDA/CDC). for the application of two doses (from 5 to 11 years of age) and three doses (from 12 to 17 years of age), extolling important benefits for this population.

“However, the refusal for widespread vaccination of girls and boys aged 5 to 12 continues in our national territory,” they said, Contrary to what happens in Mexican consulates in the United States and in other countries, where it has already been decided to vaccinate that age group.
“We cannot allow the human rights of Mexican children and adolescents to continue to be placed in the background, from an adult-centric perspective. The omission and disdain are unacceptable,” asserted the civil entities.

Finally, they said You can’t keep “hoping for miracles” nor that the pandemic reaches its limit to take action.
“We demand that public policy measures be designed for such purposesthat they be socially validated, and that the necessary resources be allocated to carry out a generalized vaccination day for children and adolescents in Mexico”, they concluded.
Mexico adds more than 5.36 million cases of Covid-19 and 314,598 deaths, which makes it the fifth country in the world with the most deaths from this cause, behind the United States, Brazil, India and Russia, according to the count of the Johns Hopkins University.
