British music mogul Jamal Edwards died on Sunday at the age of 31. In addition to being a DJ, the man was also the founder of SBTV, an online music platform that helped launch the careers of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Stormzy, Dave and Skepta.

Edwards, the son of singer and ‘Loose Women’ presenter Brenda Edwards, was a pioneer of British rap and grime music. In 2014 he was named a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his contribution to the music world. In addition to being the founder of SBTV, he was also an ambassador for ‘The Prince’s Trust’, a charity run by Britain’s Crown Prince Charles that helps young people set up their own businesses.
Edwards attended the Brit Awards earlier this month and is said to have given a DJ performance in North London on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, according to his mother, he would have died from a “sudden illness”. More details about the cause of death are not yet known.
