Germany expects vaccination with Novavax to start this week

BERLIN21 Feb – The German Government hopes that vaccinations with the COVID-19 of Novavax to start across the country in the course of this week, a person on behalf of the Ministry of Health said on Monday.

“We assume that over the next week (…) it will be possible to start vaccinating in the federal states,” he said at a regular government press conference.

Novavax’s recombinant protein vaccine (called Nuvaxovid) uses more established technology than mRNA or ARN messenger, the innovative method on which the two vaccines against the COVID-19 most used in Germany, that of Pfizer/BioNTech and that of Moderna.

Public health officials have expressed hope that Novavax’s product can convince people who have not yet been vaccinated and who are skeptical of the new mRNA technology.
