Police – Freiburg im Breisgau – Activists block roads in Stuttgart and Freiburg – Panorama

Stuttgart/Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – Activists of the “Last Generation” initiative paralyzed a main traffic artery in the center of Stuttgart and the entrance to a tunnel in Freiburg on Monday.

The police said six people had blocked federal highway 27 at Charlottenplatz in the state capital for half an hour in the morning. They wanted to protest against food waste with the action. Since it was not a registered meeting, they were asked to leave the road. The officers should have carried two activists onto the sidewalk. There were slight traffic delays due to short-term diversions.

In Freiburg, the officials said they stopped attempts by demonstrators to stick to the road. After about 20 minutes, the five activists left the road in front of the Schützenallee tunnel in the direction of Donaueschingen. The morning rush hour on the B31 backed up to four kilometers. According to the police, it was the fourth blockade in the Freiburg area since February 7th. Some people are there multiple times. There is an initial suspicion of coercion, said a spokesman. The public prosecutor must decide on the consequences.

Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) recently spoke out against such protests. He said last week that he didn’t think much of motorway blockades. “I don’t think that’s possible. These are serious violations of the law that you can’t justify.”

Climate protection demonstrators from the group “Uprising of the last generation” also blocked roads at the port of Hamburg on Monday morning. In Berlin, the group had repeatedly blocked freeways since the end of January. According to them, there have been 60 actions so far, and activists have been taken into custody 210 times. The group calls for a “food rescue law” and an agricultural turnaround to reduce greenhouse gases from agriculture. The Berlin police have set up a so-called “EG Asphalt” investigation group at the local state criminal police office to bundle the investigations.
