– I think it is a fantastic declaration of trust from NRK, it is very interesting to have a new period as a correspondent in Russia, says Holm.
Gro Holm has previously been a correspondent for NRK in the USA, and a period as a correspondent in Moscow.
– It’s been 24 years since I came back from the previous period, it’s a completely different country now. At the time, we thought it would be more like Western Europe. It did not go that way, and the country has a regime where it is difficult to understand why the top management is doing as it does.
She will take up the new job after the summer, and is looking forward to a period she believes will be both exciting and challenging.
– It will be important to talk to Russians who are far from the political leadership. Both about politics and how they live their everyday lives, she says.
– I want to report on other things than just what Putin is concerned with. About social media, culture and what young people do and are interested in in their free time. And not least, we who love the Russian people, love to go out into the countryside, where you will find the Russian people’s soul.
Holm has previously been district and news director at NRK. She brings a long and broad experience into the new period as a correspondent.
