Jan Hryniak is dead
Jan Hryniak was born on May 12, 1969 in Warsaw. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1996 he also graduated from the Directing Department of the State Higher School of Film, Television and Theater in Łódź. He was the author and co-author of scripts, film and advertising productions. He also made radio broadcasts, documentaries and music videos.
His full-length feature debut was the film “Przystań” (1997) about a day-room girl from a small town, hungry for love and male interest. The picture, in which appeared, among others Maja Ostaszewska, Rafał Królikowski, Karol Strasburger and Teresa Lipowska were presented in the main competition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

In the following years he directed the documentary “Elżbieta Chojnacka. The Harpsichordist” and the psychological drama “The Third” with Marek Kondrat, Jacek Poniedzialek and Magdalena Cielecka in the cast. another nomination for the Golden Lions and the audience award of the Film and Art Festival “Summer Films” in Toruń.
In 2011, another film by Jan Hryniak, “Trick”, was presented in the main competition of the Gdynia festival. The hero of this story was a money counterfeiter serving a sentence in prison. Four years later, the artist was honored with the Eagle in the category of the best film series for “Czas honoru. Powstanie”.
The last film by Jan Hryniak about Tadeusz Kantor
In recent years, Jan Hryniak has been working on a film about Tadeusz Kantor “Kantor. I will never come back here”, in which Borys Szyc was to play the main role. The actor, when asked in August 2019 when the production would be released, announced that “PISF took over this film from the first producer”. “We all hope that we will be able to finish it happily, although I do not know how now, weighing 18 kg more, I could go back to this look. But we have all seen the materials. We know that we have an amazing piece of history there, beautifully shown by the cinematographer Piotrek Śliskowski “- emphasized Szyc in an interview with PAP.
Ultimately, Hryniak did not manage to finish this painting. In 2020, he made “Zenka”. The film, inspired by the biography of disco polo star Zenon Martyniuk, showed his way from the Podlasie countryside to the stage. It was produced by TVP.
The director died on Saturday, February 19. He was 52 years old.
