Russian President Vladimir Putin warned against the increasing threat of sanctions from the West over the Ukraine crisis.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, on Friday (18/2/2021), Putin claimed Moscow was unlikely to evade Western sanctions, as they were not aimed at changing the behavior of the Kremlin.

In his view, Western sanctions are actually a plan to hinder Russia’s economic development.

“Sanctions will be imposed in any case. Whether they have a reason today, for example, in relation to the events in Ukraine, or there is no reason, it will be discovered,” Putin said.

Putin added, “The goals are different. In this case, the aim is to slow down the development of Russia and Belarus.”
