Charging station company Allego will stop installing slow charging stations in Dutch municipalities, the Financieele Dagblad writes. The company only wants to focus on fast chargers, the company claims.
Allego has informed about a hundred municipalities that they are canceling the contract for the installation of the piles, reports the FD† This concerns the charging stations that municipalities have installed after local residents have applied for one. Owners of electric cars without their own driveway can charge their car battery close to home in this way.
The company says it has installed around ten thousand piles in recent years, making it the market leader in the Netherlands with a share of around 30 percent. Allego will handle already approved applications and will maintain the charging stations for the next ten years. Allego wants to focus on fast chargers and therefore does not want to place the slow piles anymore. According to Allego, the installation method, whereby the municipality only installs chargers after an application for a permit, is outdated. “It is time for the next phase and acceleration. We are therefore in favor of the construction of public charging plazas where several cars can charge at the same time.”
The contract cancellation took effect on January 1. according to a letter published by the municipality of Gorinchem† The College of Mayor and Aldermen said in December that it would investigate whether Allego may unilaterally terminate the contract, but has not since reverted to this.
