Washington DC –
United States of America (USA) is rumored to have the latest intelligence report showing orders have been sent to the commander Russia to continue the attack on Ukraine. This was conveyed by two US officials who are familiar with US intelligence.
Reported from CNNMonday (2/21/2022), intelligence reports on orders to tactical commanders and intelligence operations are one of several indicators the US is watching to assess whether Russia’s preparations have entered the final stages for a possible invasion.
Other indicators such as electronic intrusion and widespread cyberattacks have not been observed. The source warned the order could always be withdrawn or it could be misinformation meant to confuse and mislead the US and its allies.
The intelligence report was reviewed last week and informed by comments by President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. On Friday, Biden said he believed Putin had “made the decision” to attack — a comment echoed by Vice President Kamala Harris and by Blinken two days later.
“We believe President Putin has made a decision,” Blinken said on Sunday (20/2).
“But until the tanks are really rolling and the planes are flying, we will seize every opportunity and every minute we have to see if diplomacy can still deter President Putin from continuing this.”
The Washington Post was the first to report on the order. Biden held a National Security Council meeting on Sunday to discuss the situation in Ukraine with top advisers including Blinken, Harris, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
“As the President said, we believe that Putin has made his decision, period,” Harris told CNN during a press briefing in Munich on Sunday (20/2).
After meeting with leaders including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Harris stressed the US and its allies were still trying to resolve the crisis diplomatically. However, he called the path of diplomacy ‘narrow’.
“They disengaged and are now ready to attack,” US Defense Secretary Austin said in remarks from Lithuania.
He also called Russian troops “moved into the right position to be able to carry out the attack”.
Russia himself has repeatedly denied planning to invade Ukraine. Russia has also pulled some troops from its border with Ukraine.
