The available information on the Game of Thrones-Ableger House of the Dragon in limits: There are a few pictures and at least a first trailer for the prequel series, but otherwise fans look into the void. Now there is good news from the Game of Thrones grandfather himself.
George R.R. Martincreator of the books and instrumental in some seasons of the series, announced namely on his blog happy that the Filming of the first season have now been completed. So all ten episodes are in the box and the basic structure is in place. Of course, film and series fans know that the series is far from over.

Work on House of the Dragon is ongoing
Martin also emphasizes this: “I’ve been informed that Season 1 of House of the Dragon has finished filming. Yes, all ten episodes. I’ve seen rough clips of some of them and I love them. Of course, there’s still a whole lot more work to be done . Special effects, color grading, music, all the post-production work. But the work of the writers, the director, the actors: it all looks terrific. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.”
So it will probably be a while before the series is really completely finished and ready to be broadcast. The release is planned for this year on HBO Max, but Martin didn’t want or couldn’t give any more information about it start date give:
“Now when will we see it you ask? When will the dragons dance? I wish I could tell you. As I said, there is still work to be done and Covid is making planning difficult. This spring? Unlikely. Maybe summer? Could be. Fall? Who knows? You’ll know when we know.”

Peter Dinklage isn’t thrilled with House of the Dragon
Game of Thrones-Darsteller Peter Dinklage however, best known for his role as the quibbling Tyrion Lannister, doesn’t share George RR Martin’s enthusiasm. He criticized the concept of House of the Dragon, calling it despondent and seeing it as just one way how HBO can earn more money:
“No one from the original is part of the series, but there’s another series because Game of Thrones made them money. […] With our series, HBO took a big risk. It’s been a tough start, but why don’t they do it again? It’s not a risk now. It’s a proven thing that works.”
