VT Kempen celebrates 14th victory in 14th game

Krefeld The handball players win the top game against Bocholt with 34:21. They even surprised their trainer Jürgen Witzke with their outstanding performance. On Monday evening they meet Adler Königshof in the cup.
The handball players of VT Kempen are unstoppable in the national league. In the 14th game, the team of coach Jürgen Witzke and Steffi Schuhmacher achieved their 14th victory. VTK scored 34:21 (19:14) against third-placed TSV Bocholt. The most successful goalscorers were Melina Witzke with seven and Hannah Kamm with six goals.

VT Kempen dominates the national league. She also demonstrated that in the top game against Bocholt. “For many of our girls, who could actually play at a higher level, playing for Kempen is a matter close to their hearts,” said coach Jürgen Witzke. “We again benefited from an extremely solid team performance today. The team shone in attack and in some cases performed magic and surprised even me as a coach in a positive way.”

On Monday evening, VT Kempen welcomes the Oberliga club and reigning district cup winner Adler Königshof in the quarter-finals of the district cup. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. in the Jahn Hall. The winner advances to the final four for the county cup.

Adler Königshof was also in top form in the Oberliga and celebrated a clear 34:21 (20:7) victory over HSV Solingen-Gräfrath II. “We started the game well and were well defended from the start. We laid the foundation for a very clear and already crucial 20:7 lead at halftime. Even though we were a bit wasteful with our chances in the counterattack right at the beginning,” reported Ingo Häußler.

The Turnerschaft St. Tönis had to admit defeat at TSV Bonn. David von Essen replaced Miriam Heinecke on the bench, who had gone on a skiing holiday after beating leaders Treudeutsch Lank 24:20 in the catch-up game. “We slept through the beginning of the second half and had problems against Bonn’s 3:2:1 defense,” explained von Essen. When the guests were already 19:25 behind, they were able to shorten the lead to 23:25 with a 4:0 run thanks to two goals each from Lena Schleupen and Doreen Topel. But their own mistakes cost the gymnasts their reward and they had to admit defeat at 26:29.

Adler Königshof had to pause in the men’s upper league because the opponent Bergischer HC II had corona cases and the match was postponed at short notice. TV Oppum had a pitch-black day on Sunday and lost 18:32 at home to TV Lobberich. Ljubomir Cutura’s team slept through the early stages of the game and was already 10-2 behind after 18 minutes.

The St. Tönis Turnerschaft celebrated their ninth win of the season in the Verbandsliga by beating HC RW Oberhausen 29:22.
