Watkins Glen State Park, New York, USA
If you’ve had enough of the noise and stress of a New York visit and want some time, you can treat yourself to a break at Watkins Glen State Park in Upstate New York. Here visitors find themselves in the wild nature between deciduous trees, idyllic hiking trails and bizarre rock formations.
Where is Watkins Glen State Park located?
Watkins Glen State Park is located in the Northeast of the United States in the US state of New York. The metropolis of New York City is around 250 kilometers away.
What makes Watkins Glen State Park so special?
The water currents of the Glen Creek River drilled through the rock massif as early as the Ice Age. Today, visitors can marvel at the natural spectacle in the form of a gorge around 120 meters deep. Like a tree, the individual layers of the millennium-old rock can be seen in the River Kluft. The River Gap forms the heart of the almost three square kilometer Watkins Glen State Park. Visitors can explore the gorge on three different hiking tours. Outside the gorge, the park offers spacious campsites and wonderful views.
When is the best time to visit Watkins Glen State Park?
Those wishing to visit the Watkins Glen River Gorge must arrive between May and November. In the winter months, all three hiking routes remain closed due to the high risk of slipping.
