Demonstrations – Freiburg im Breisgau – Reutlingen and Freiburg: protests against Corona policy – politics

Reutlingen/Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – Opponents of the Corona measures took to the streets again in Baden-Württemberg on Saturday. The largest demonstration took place in Reutlingen. Around 5,000 people moved through the city center here, according to the police. This time it was significantly less than at the last events. The participants opposed the existing restrictions resulting from the pandemic and against a general obligation to vaccinate against corona. The police were deployed in large numbers, including officers from the cavalry squadron.

The participants expressed their displeasure on posters and banners. One banner read: “#I don’t do it.” Another read: “Indomitable. Up until now you have vaccinated Romans, now only Gauls remain.” According to the observations of a dpa reporter, “peace” and “freedom” were also called out. The demo participants sang, whistled whistles and also had drums to make noise.

Demo participant Friedrich Hertter (58) from Reutlingen said: “I took part in general military service, I don’t take part in general vaccination.” He is not a corona denier, he said, but against compulsory vaccination. The nurse Antje K., who did not want to give her last name, from Tübingen, explained that she was not vaccinated against Corona. She is against the vaccination. “This is an intervention in my body.” Urs Langhans from Pfullingen also took part in the protest march. The family man came with his wife, daughter and mother-in-law. The upcoming relaxation of the corona restrictions did not go far enough for him. Among other things, the mask requirement remains, he criticized.

According to the police, the demo participants were made aware of the obligation to wear masks several times. There were two criminal proceedings initiated for violating the assembly law and one for insulting police officers. At the end of the demo, a television crew was surrounded by several people chanting “Lying Press”.

According to the city of Reutlingen, a meeting with 7,000 participants was registered. On February 12, there was a lift through the city center with around 7,500 people, according to the police. Several criminal proceedings were initiated, including for insulting officials – and because police officers were approached or threatened in the area of the speaker’s platform.

According to the police, around 4,500 opponents of the corona measures marched through the city center in Freiburg on Saturday. There were individual violations of the obligation to wear a protective mask.

It remained quiet around the home of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) in Sigmaringen until late Saturday evening, according to a police spokesman. The district office had banned further meetings there. In a general decree on Thursday, so-called walks and rallies in the streets around the Green politician’s private home were prohibited. The regulation should initially apply until March 15th. Opponents of the Corona policy had protested for two days in a row in the immediate vicinity of Kretschmann’s house in the Laiz district.
