Collect data before banning.

Activision and Team Ricochet announced in a blog post how they deal with cheaters in Call of Duty: Warzone make it even more difficult in the future. Cheaters that are detected by the Ricochet anti-cheat software will now receive a ‘Damage Shield’, which prevents them from dealing critical damage.

That may seem like a mild punishment, but according to Ricochet that is a conscious choice. In this way, the developer of the anti-cheat software can collect a lot of data about the tools that the cheaters use. This should help to detect these tools even better in the future. Presumably, cheaters can expect a ban at a later date.

Ricochet anti-cheat was introduced in Warzone in October 2021† In the blog post, Team Ricochet reports that the number of cheaters had reached a minimum by the end of 2021. However, the number subsequently rose, making the new measure necessary.
